Deeping's men's teams can offer hockey for all levels of ability.
The 1st XI has been hovering in the top five in Division 3NW for several seasons, and as usual is looking towards promotion this year under possibly their youngest-ever skipper Richard Woods. They have enjoyed some decent cup runs in the HA Vase in the last two seasons, losing narrowly to the eventual winners last year. High quality players will find testing hockey in Division 3NW. The club is desperate to fast-track a good young goalkeeper and add an experienced centre-half/playmaker to the squad but there are opportunities in all positions.
The 2nd XI plays in Div 4NW. It offers an outlet for fit keen players of all ages, with the emphasis on fast-tracking the best young players in a good standard of hockey. They underperformed last season, but new skipper Graham Brewer will bring his own brand of steeliness to the team. The second team is famed for its sociability - and its ability to beat anyone on their day.
The 3rd XI finished second in their league last season to achieve a second promotion in two years and now plays in Div 5NW, under the leadership of Club Captain Simon Taylor. In the past it has been very much the "lads and dads" side, but the emphasis is on four things - playing good hockey, developing the youngest players in the club; supplying good social hockey for casual or occasional players; and keeping our veteran players in action. As a result it offers a chance to play with some of the most skilful and experienced players in the club.
Although the need to play on Astroturf pitches at times ranging from 10am to 4.30pm has stunted the social life of the average hockey player, Deeping continue to lay heavy emphasis on the social side of the game. This will be helped this year by all the men's home games being on the Deeping Leisure Centre Astro.Various dinners and social events are laid on throughout the season and are usually well attended and the individual teams enjoy their nights out. Visit the website regularly for further details.
