CAMBRIDGE Ladies League Division 1 Cup

Market Deeping Ladies 2nd XI (1) vs Rutland Ladies 1st XI (1)

Emily Reeson struck her first senior goal as keeper-less Deeping produced a remarkable performance against high flying Rutland.

DIVISION 2N

Market Deeping 1st XI (8) vs St Neots 1st XI (3)

There’s a clearly a massive gulf between the top of Div 2N and the bottom, one which Deeping clearly demonstrated as they bounced back from recent heavy defeats with this thrashing of rock bottom St Neots. Goals from Ali Rowledge (3), Phil Arnold, John Plant

DIVISION 3NW

Market Deeping 2nd XI (2) vs Cambridge University 3rd XI (5)

Another defeat left Deeping propping up the table in Div 3NW with just one point from their first five games. There were improvements in many areas, not least in distribution from the back line. With Simon Wilmot in the line up, Deeping benefited from his lifted ball skills, his aerial capability launching a series of promising counter attacks early in the first half.
Cambridge had by far the majority of the possession in dangerous areas, but Deeping were looking much more of a threat moving forward than on previous outings, with the mazy dribbling of Henry Winfield-Chislett, aided by the tireless running of Ben Walden and Ben Dalgliesh up front.
Cambridge deservedly took the lead after their early pressure with a reverse stick effort through a crowd of legs and unsighted ‘keeper Joe Wray.
Deeping struck back through a Simon Wilmot short corner dragged high into the net. A mix up in Deeping’s defence saw Cambs re-take the lead through an own goal.
At half time a 2-1 score line was a good reflection on the game, though Cambs will have thought themselves unlucky not to be further ahead after some impressive moments between the sticks from Wray.
Deeping re-started well and began carving out some decent chances. Yet again they were caught with a sucker punch, losing possession in their own half, and allowing a 3 on 1 opportunity which the well drilled university side were not about to pass up.
Deeping were still fighting, and when Nick Maxey’s close range finish brought them to within a goal, they poured forward in search of an equaliser.
Sadly a short corner blocked on the line by a defender’s foot gave Cambridge a flick, and despite Wray’s acrobatic dive getting a piece of the ball, Cambs regained a two goal cushion.
Cambridge were briefly down to 10 men when a player was yellow carded for dissent, but a further well converted short corner wrapped things up for the visitors.
MOTM – Joe Wray – kept his side in the game with some solid goalkeeping early on.

DIVISION 5NW

Newmarket 1st XI (2) vs Market Deeping 3rd XI (0)

Deeping travelled to Newmarket with a bare eleven while their hosts made best use of a 15 man squad with an average age probably half that of Deeping’s veteran based side.
The game was however evenly matched throughout with both keepers making smart saves to keep the score goalless at half time.
Newmarket broke the deadline five minutes into the second half with a quick break down their right flank resulting in a cut back from the byline being roofed into the net off the crossbar from close range.
Deeping continued to have plenty of the ball, but just couldn't convert any of their string of chances, with the Newmarket keeper continuing to frustrate the visitor’s attack.
Over a dozen short corners were awarded to Deeping as they pressed hard for an equaliser, but Newmarket remained dangerous on the break and it was from a short corner of their own that the home side sealed the victory.
A third defeat in a row leaves Deeping in the bottom three, but they have not been outclassed by any opposition this season so far, and just need to improve their finishing to climb back up the table.
MotM: Kev Richardson - great positioning and well-timed tackles meant few Newmarket youngsters got past the Deeping vet.
