Deeping were left rueing this missed opportunity to haul themselves from the bottom of division 3, and give themselves a fighting chance of avoiding relegation. Two nil up after goals from Ben Dalgliesh and Simon Wilmot and suddenly the strains of "The Great Escape" could be heard wafting across the Cambridge University campus. But fellow strugglers Cambs City obviously had their ear plugs in, as oblivious to Deeping's script, they promptly grabbed a goal back from a short corner before a brilliantly taken equaliser finished high into the net from the top of the D brought them back on terms for 2-2 at halftime.
Deeping are fast finding that when you're down at the foot of the table things just don't seem to want to go your way, a sentiment summed up perfectly by Cambs' go ahead goal, a short corner deflected twice, eventually finding it's way into the goal via a defender's foot for 3-2. Deeping, to their credit, rallied quickly and pushed forward with Mike Gregson on the right of midfield providing a constant threat, however, if games can be won or lost on one decision, then Ben Dalgliesh's turn and shot, ruled out for alledgedly backing in to the equally mystified defender was the turning point of this game. Had the 'goal' stood, 3-3 with Deeping on the up, things could have been different. But when things don't go your way, you've got to get on with it and dig even deeper, but for Deeping, pushing further and further forward in greater numbers only served to give Cambs chance after chance on the breakaway, and despite the best efforts of Deeping's stretched  back line, 3-2 became 4-2, and to complete the rout 5-2 late on. Deeping now have just 5 games left to save their season, needing a minimum of 9 points to realistically have any chance of staying up.
