CAMBRIDGE Ladies Premier League
Saffron Walden Ladies 1st XI (1) vs Market Deeping Ladies 1st XI (0)
Market Deeping were without a number of regular first team players for the trip south to Saffron Walden and added several second team players to their squad.
The game was tight from the off and neither side was able to create any clear cut chances to score.
A number of good runs from midfield by Natasha Newitt posed the opposition problems but Deeping couldn’t make the breakthrough.
Midway through the first half Saffron Walden were awarded a short corner. The resulting shot from the top of the D took an unlucky deflection off a defenders stick and past stand in keeper and captain Kirsten Hackett. It was one nil to Saffron Walden at half time and that’s how it stayed.
The unfamiliar Deeping side began to settle down in the second half and started to dominate possession more. Pushing forward in search of an equaliser Deeping sent a number of dangerous balls across the D but were unable to make the pressure count.
Saffron Walden’s limited second half chances were dealt with comfortably by the defence but Deeping lacked the cutting edge at the front to get back into the game.
Despite the defeat Deeping will take a number of positives out of what was a very even contest. There were encouraging performances by the first team newcomers including a very strong player of the match performance by Grace MacDonald.

Cambridge South 3rd XI (2) vs Market Deeping 3rd XI (4)
Deeping bounced back in style from last week's heavy defeat, with a well deserved victory away to an in-form Cambs South side.
The home side started confidently and Deeping survived a couple of short corner scares before starting to move the ball around the large astro confidently themselves.
On the quarter hour Deeping took the lead after a fast counter attack down the right flank ended with the ball being cut back from the byline for Ben Walden to stroke home from close range. However, Deeping then fell foul of the old adage of never being more vulnerable than just after scoring, when Cambs South hit back almost from the restart with a firm low shot that squeezed just inside the on-rushing Deeping keeper's far post.
Both sides continued to craft good scoring opportunities, but it was Henry Winfield-Chislett who kept his composure to regain the lead for Deeping before half-time, managing to stay on his feet after a couple of robust defensive challenges to lift the ball over the Cambs South keeper.
Deeping took control of the game in the second half, making good use of the rare luxury of substitutes to dominate possession and force a string of short corners.
It was from open play, however, that Deeping were to effectively seal the win, Ben Dalgleish, emphatically concluding another fine passing move down the right wing by roofing the ball into the net off the crossbar.
Cambs South rallied briefly and managed to pull a goal back from a scrappy piece of play, but Deeping never looked like relinquishing their grip on the game as they defended hard from front to back, giving the hosts little time on the ball and always looking threatening on the break.
After another quick Deeping break, Jas Phagora calmly converted the resultant short-corner, low to the keeper's right.
