CAMBS Ladies Premier League

Market Deeping Ladies 1st XI

Game called off due to frozen pitch

CAMBS Ladies Div 2

Huntingdon Ladies 2nd XI (0) vs Market Deeping Ladies 2nd XI (2)

Deeping skipper Nicky Buckby is sponsored by the goal by her husband Rick. It’s a tenner a goal and £50 for hat trick and she’s costing TTR Locksmiths and Deeping Lock and Safe a pretty penny and paying for a few pitch bookings on her own. When the idea was hatched he didn’t expect Buckby to have struck 15 times by the end of January, including a couple of hat tricks and another brace this week to make it four in two games.
Despite the frozen pitch, Deeping’s second team ladies were happy to play Huntingdon while most hockey players were still in bed.
Huntingdon started strongly forcing Deeping’s defence to take stock of their tactics. Gradually the tide turned and Deeping began to push back into the Huntingdon half.
The Huntingdon keeper kept Deeping at bay until Buckby broke the deadlock.
Deeping pushed up and kept the play deep in Huntingdon’s half, with the midfield controlling the game.
The Hunts keeper continued to keep them in the game, despite colliding with Buckby who took a bad fall over the sliding keeper.
Huntingdon attacked more effectively in the second half, and Aly Smith was forced to continue her good form in goal while Leanne Fane defended successfully.
With Ann Carter and Emily Reeson working hard in midfield, and Kat Kennedy driving forward, despite her injuries Buckby added her second.
Player of the match was Ann Carter.

Market Deeping 1st IX (4) vs Dereham 2nd XI (4)

Skipper Richard Woods was pretty pleased with pinching a point against a very useful Dereham side after a dreadful start when Deeping quickly went three goals down. They fought back to 3-2 at half time with goals from Paul Tancred and Phil Arnold, then added a third through Tancred to make it 3-3 all before falling behind to a short corner. Brilliant keeping from Stu Ireland kept Deeping in the game.
James Sharpe brought Deeping back to parity late in the game and gave them another vital Div 2N point.

Boston 3rd XI (3) vs Market Deeping 3rd XI (3)

With no game on Saturday Deeping played their twice postponed fixture against Boston on Sunday, and despite being unbeaten - and second in the league - Deeping gave Boston their first point of the entire season.
Desperate not to repeat the multiple misses of last week, Deeping really needed to start well against a surprisingly useful young Boston team who had apparently lost 12-2 the previous day. They didn’t, and throughout the game their passing, a feature of their success this season, let them down badly and they seemed sluggish and ill at ease.
Boston threatened to break away and score early on, but Deeping responded by squandering their chances in front of goal until a powerhouse Kevin Richardson short corner found the net.
Deeping were now quite dominant but against the run of play Boston hit back after clumsy defending. After several near misses Alex Gale who had just wasted a simple chance, scored with a powerful flick at the far post for Deeping’s second goal.
Deeping made changes at half time, pushing Tom Richardson into midfield and introducing Matt Brown. Initially they seemed more dominant as a result but then Boston equalised as Deeping failed to clear the lines again.
Deeping went back into the lead almost straight away as a lovely flowing move, something that has deserted them lately, left hard working skipper Kev Baker free to slot home. Deeping were again on top at this point, but wasted further short corner chances, and looked increasingly tired as Boston’s fit young players missed a good chance, but scored from another.
Deeping besieged Boston’s D for the last ten minutes. They had a clever Tom Allam goal disallowed in favour of a penalty corner and to complete the frustration, Muddy Waters unluckily deflected a shot onto his own foot on the goal line.
