Market Deeping Ladies 2nd XI (4) vs Bourne Ladies 3rd XI (1)

Market Deeping dominated this game and the first half of the match was almost entirely played in Bourne’s half of the. Market Deeping’s defenders barely got a look in, and the keeper didn’t touch the ball.
Meanwhile the attackers were bombarding the Bourne goalkeeper who did a sterling job saving the majority of shots. It was 2-0 at halftime.
The second half of the match was a little less one sided. Bourne managed to move the ball up the pitch a bit more with some good passing but struggled to keep possession once they reached Deeping’s defence, scoring only a single goal. Deeping replied with two of their own. Goals were scored by Sophie Goodrun, Sarah Smith (2) and Jemma Caitlin,

Ely City 3rd XI (3) vs Market Deeping 3rd IX (2)

In their final pre-season friendly Deeping 3rds had that déjà vu feeling as for the second week running they lost a close encounter late in the game, this time to a youthful Ely City 3rd XI.
Despite a confident start, Deeping quickly found themselves 2-0 down as Ely converted their early chances.  Deeping’s old heads steadied themselves though and pulled a goal back from a Kev Richardson short corner strike just before half time.
Almost straight from the re-start Deeping forced another short corner, which was sweetly struck home by Simon Taylor.  Despite the heat of a surprisingly hot day, the rest of the match was an end to end affair, with both sides playing some nice flowing hockey.  New recruit, Rob Glover, came close to giving Deeping the lead, but it was Ely who managed to find the winner with a powerful
shot into the top right of the Deeping goal, following a long corner with two minutes to go.
