Wisbech Ladies 2nd XI (0) vs Market Deeping Ladies 1st XI (0)

Deeping took a new line up to Wisbech after achieving promotion to the Cambs Premier division last season. New club members and some strong 2nd XI players joined the core of last year’s squad for their first friendly.
Wisbech started fast with incisive passing and put the Deeping defence under pressure, but they settled and began to dominate, mounting a series of attacks on goal and winning a number of short corners.
Deeping’s player of the match, Gemma Caitlin broke from right midfield but the forwards were well-marked and unable to convert her crosses.
Deeping kept a slight upper hand in the second half with Jan Grace working tirelessly in central defence. Wisbech managed a couple of breaks but their shots were effortlessly saved by keeper Angela Cox.
Frustrated Wisbech saw some aggressive tackling lead to a copule of umpiring cards. Close to the end, Deeping were still winning short corners and failing to convert.

Market Deeping 3rd IX (1) vs City of Peterborough 7th XI (2)

Deeping suffered an infuriating last minute friendly defeat to a City of Peterborough ‘Vets & 7s’ side.
Stand-in keeper Alex Gale made a couple of solid stops for Deeping early on,
before City took the lead from a close range effort halfway through the
first half.  The home side had had their chances too failing to convert a number of penalty corners before the break.
The second half saw Deeping improve their passing, and make greater use of the wings, and their increased pressure was rewarded with an equaliser from their captain Kev Baker, who struck a low shot into the corner of the goal from just inside the D.
With their defence holding firm, Deeping then pushed forward looking for the
win. Nick Maxey came close to capping a fine performance at right back with a goal, but two consecutive attacks ended with his shots being padded away by the
Peterborough keeper.
Almost inevitably Deeping’s attacking attitude was to be their undoing. Seconds before the final whistle they were caught on the break, and City snatched a late winner.
