CAMBS Ladies Premier League

Market Deeping Ladies 1st XI (7) vs Huntingdon Ladies 1st XI (1)

Deeping dominated the first half but were only rewarded with one goal - a cracking short corner shot from Gemma Catlin - and Huntingdon equalised just before half time.
Deeping’s defence, lead by Angela Cox in goal, was calm and collected, bringing the ball up and releasing it to the forwards.
Brilliant work from new signing Gemma Anderson inspired Deeping into a different mood in the second half. A second goal from Catlin came from the top of the D after a build up based on precise passing.
Becky Allam crossed beautifully to Janet Eagle-Smith who pinged it between the keeper’s legs then minutes later Eagle-Smith got her second flicking home a cross from skipper Sarah Smith.
Faye Logan had been battling down the right wing and was rewarded when her powerful shot took a slight deflection into the goal.
Eagle-Smith completed her hat trick after picking up a pass from Amy Gwilliam who worked tirelessly on the left wing throughout the game.
Final goal came from a smooth passing move as Natasha Newitt (player of the match) threaded the ball to Debbie Wilding who set up Smith to tap in just before the final whistle.

CAMBS Ladies Div 2

Bourne Ladies 3rd XI (0) vs Market Deeping Ladies 2nd XI (2)

Deeping struggled to break down a well organised but very youthful Bourne team who showed lots of ability but couldn’t contain Deeping’s power and pace. It took two very well worked goals to take the points and both were put together by Sophie Goodrum and skipper Nicky Buckby. Too many Deeping attacks foundered on the top of the D, but with probing runs from Jo Addison and some good midfield work from Fay Shepherd, Goodrum cleverly took advantage of the width she was creating wide down the right wing and passed across the face of the goal for Buckby to pounce from short range. Deeping failed to benefit from a string of first half short corners, and the second half saw them lose shape a little, and Bourne began to control the midfield.
They foundered on a determined Deeping defence with Rachel Gale’s powerful hitting and Kirsten Hackett’s mazy runs out of central defence creating some panic for Bourne. New signing Katrina Kennedy worked  hard and effectively without the goal her play deserved.
Deeping’s finest moment was yet to come. Goodrum pursued a loose ball into the middle of the pitch where her one-handed lunge produced a perfect pass to Buckby who responded with a pin-point wall pass to Goodrum. She drew the excellent Bourne keeper and slotted the ball home with a powerful push. Could be the goal of the season…
Bourne scored late on with a well-worked short corner.

CAMBS Mens Div 2 N

Dereham 2nd XI (2) vs Market Deeping 1st IX (5)

Newly promoted Deeping’s good opening form continued in the lofty heights of Div 2N.
After going 2-0 down in the first half last week, Deeping were determined not to let it happen again. True to their plan, they dictated the game right from the start, with some lovely passing moves which meant that Dereham were chasing shadows for much of the game.
Couple this with patient build up play and things will start to click into place. Former national league striker Paul Tancred has taken the move up to Div Two in his stride and already has six goals in the new league, including four this week, as he took most of his chances cleanly. The fifth came from Chris Mann with his first of the season.

This was the best performance Deeping have produced for some time - and while they know that there will be much harder tests to come, this six point head start bodes well for the rest of the season.

CAMBS Mens Div 4 NW

Market Deeping 2nd XI (2) vs Cambridge Nomads 3rd XI (0)

Both sides were a little under strength for this fixture, and Nomads had already been forced to concede their 4th XI league game to Deeping’s third team. As it was Nomads were unable to force a short corner or an on-target strike at goal throughout the 70 minutes.
Equally Deeping never really dominated the possession, and even when new recruit Richard Garret forced home the opener midway through the first half, they never looked truly comfortable. Possession was squandered too easily by both sides, but Deeping always maintained the threat of a goal, and looked more organised throughout. Dan Medd was a constant threat, raiding from right back.
The second half saw increased Deeping pressure on the Cambridge goal and Nick Maxey finally gave them some breathing space with a scuffed hit which took a deflection past a wrong footed ‘keeper for 2-0.
Cambridge’s last attack, with minutes remaining, caught Deeping outnumbered at the back, but keeper Ray Isaacs had his angles right and the shot slipped past the post.
Full credit to Nomads for delaying the start, which allowed ‘keeper Isaacs to escape from a traffic jam. But his first and only touch came seconds into the game as he cut out a dangerous looking cross.
