Sunday October 21st 2007 Mens HA VaseStevenage 1st XI (4) vs Market Deeping 1st XI (2) Deeping turned up in confident and buoyant mood after their 6 - 0 win over Rutland the previous day, but how 24 hours can make a difference. Deeping took the lead after the first 2 minutes with a well taken goal by Paul Tancred from a short corner. From there on Deeping soaked up the pressure and conceded 2 goals from short corners. Deeping did not give up and continued to probe the Stevenage defence but Stevenage came back with another 2 goals. Paul Tancred unfortunately missed a penalty flick and James Sharpe hit the post late on in the second half. Another day, another game and they may have gone in, but it wasn't to be and Deeping must now focus on the league and promotion to div 2. Saturday October 20th 2007 |

CUP MatchSawtry Ladies 1st XI (0) vs Market Deeping Ladies 1st XI (1)On paper this looked to be Deeping Ladies toughest challenge yet but, with only 10 players available, Deeping refused to go down without a fight. Despite a necessary change in formation, Deeping were able to create a great many chances and forced a number of short corners and were only denied by some excellent saves from Sawtrys' first time goal keeper . Having never injected for short corners before, player of the match Kirsten Hackett showed her worth as a first team player by scoring the only goal of the match from a short corner. Despite a change to Sawtry’s line up and with the addition of some strong players, Deeping never let up the pressure and were always on the attack, supported enthusiastically by their supporters. After half time Deeping were forced to make a further change to their formation due to injury and focused their energy on retaining their lead. Although the match became more defensive for Deeping, they kept their heads up, particularly on the right with Faye Logan and Sarah Smith continuing to both pressurise Sawtry’s defence and track back to support their own defence. Sawtry were able to create enough of a threat for Deeping’s keeper to be tested but this did not worry Deeping too much and the defence kept calm and continued to clear the ball to the midfield. Deeping’s excellent teamwork and determination left the final score 1 – 0 to Deeping, a score they should be pleased with in light of a difficult week. CAMBS LEAGUE Div 2Market Deeping Ladies 2nd XI (4) vs St Neots 4th XI (1)Deeping demonstrated their intent with a great attacking move from the start and showed how well this 2nd XI have now gelled as a team. With 15 minutes gone an excellent passing move between Anya McKenzie and Jo Addison saw Jo Addison score the opening goal. Deeping continued to attack but were kept at bay by some excellent saves from the St Neots goal keeper. With 5 minutes to go to half time, Jo Addison slotted home an expertly taken goal to ensure that Deeping were 2-0 up at the break. The second half started with Deeping determined to keep up the pressure. Debby Wilding, in midfield, demonstrated some exquisite technical skills to set up Anya Mckenzie to score the third goal of the game. Erin Camody was by now dominating the midfield and having her best game of the season so far. Slightly against the run of play, St Neots forced a short corner from which they scored. Soon after an unfortunate accident to sweeper Rachel Gale saw her taken, as a precaution, by ambulance to hospital for a check up. Deeping reorganised their defence to cope with the loss and continued to apply pressure to the St Neots defence. With 5 minutes to go, Jo Addison completed her hat trick to complete a 4 -1 win and demonstrate that Deeping ladies 2nd XI are fast becoming a force to be reckoned with at this level.
EAST 3NWRutland 1st XI (0) vs Market Deeping 1st XI (6)The omens were good for Deeping as Rutland started the game without a goal keeper. Rutland still managed to apply some pressure to the Deeping defence in the early stages of the first half but by half time it was clear the game was only going to go one way. By the time the Rutland goal keeper turned up it was 5-0 to Deeping. Paul Tancred was setting a great example by scoring a hatrick and James Sharpe was not far behind with a brace. Henry Winfield-Chislet scored the first goal which bobbled into the net. Andrew kind proved what a great utility player he is by playing in yet another new role, this time it was centre midfield. Adi, in goal, made some very important saves through out the match. It was a very solid performance and an important win that enable Deeping to remain unbeaten this season. Div 4NWMarket Deeping 2nd XI (4) vs Peterborough Exiles 1st XI (1)A penalty flick from Russ Seton midway through the 2nd half turned out to be the game winner in this closely fought contest between local rivals. EAST Div 5NWMarket Deeping 3rd IX (1) vs City of Peterborough 6th XI (4)A decent performance by Deeping in which they made nearly as many opportunities as Peterborough but failed to convert them left skipper Simon Taylor frustrated again. Peterborough scored two excellent goals early on, and a third followed before half time. Matt Brown was given room to drive into the D and score for Deeping under a sprawling keeper. The otherwise excellent Adi White in Deeping’s goal had made several outstanding saves but he then had a moment of madness to give away a penalty flick. Deeping look as they can survive in the E 14 5NW league, but aren’t thrilled by the fact that what was their very successful development squad fielded almost a complete 11 of veterans this week. |
