Division 3NW

Market Deeping 1st XI (1) vs Cambridge Nomads 2nd XI (1)

Fourth played third and Deeping’s final slip date match of the season saw a decent enough performance in a fast, flowing but unexciting game. Deeping fielded a side lacking the two men who scored five goals last week (Paul Tancred and Henry Winfield-Chislett) and they struggled to score against a relaxed and useful Cambs Nomads with nothing much to play for.
Cambs were very strong and fast in midfield, and attacked well from defence.
Nil-nil at half time was about right after solid work from Jason Purllant in what might be his last game in goal for the club (but not his last game) and as the second half got a fraction more heated than was merited by what was essential a dead rubber, the fractious Treve Wagstaffe pounced on a loose ball in the D and flicked home.
Moments later Deeping seemed to have struck again as Chris Mann lifted the ball into the net but after consultation it was (probably correctly) disallowed.
Cambs then scored from a dribble into the D at a short corner, and after a few more minutes of Nomads pressure the game trickled out into an inevitable draw. Deeping finish fourth in Div 3NW having only lost five games, all in one long run before Christmas. These coupled with six draws mean that they finish 13 points shy of the promotion places
