Division 3NWCambridge Nomads 2nd XI (5) vs Market Deeping 1st XI (1)This was another disappointing performance Market Deeping. Confidence was already low, after the loss of the previous game. The second half did not bring any relief for Deeping and Nomads continued to attack leading to two further goals. Finally there was some consolation for Deeping midway through the second-half – a goal from Andy Brassington reverse-sticked hit into the goal from a short corner. Deeping looked much more positive for a time. Brassington had a further shot later in the game and despite his tireless running in midfield was not able to turn the score around. A late strike for Nomads meant that the final score had the look of a rout. Deeping men need to gain a win to boost their confidence and would all benefit from full attendance at training. Division 4NWMarket Deeping 2nd XI (2) vs Boston 1st XI (3)Frustration for Deeping as one of their best performances of the season didn’t yield a point. It was quickly clear that Boston had one or two outstandingly good players at this level but that Deeping, buoyed up by new signings, had no weak ones. The first half was very close until a wonderful drag flicked corner from Simon Burnell gave Deeping a lead that they didn’t really deserve. Five minutes later however they did deserve as the bombarded the Boston goal and Paul Byrne was incredibly unlucky to hit the post. Gradually Boston’s playmaker dominated the second half taking advantage of poor marking in midfield and after several lucky escapes the pressure told with a goalkeeping error. Two more goals quickly followed, before Deeping broke the pattern of played and began to pressurise Boston again. With minutes to go Mike Gregson cleverly flicked over the Boston keeper and the last seconds saw wave after wave of Deeping attacks repelled. Deeping’s consistently good play deserved better, but tactical errors turned the game. Division 6NWMarket Deeping 3rd XI (3) vs Horncastle 2nd XI (0)The 3rd XI game was conceded to Deeping 3-0. |
