Market Deeping Ladies 1st XI (1) vs Newmarket Ladies XI (4)
For the second week running Deeping Ladies were a little out of sorts and Newmarket pounced. They were a goal up within minutes and certainly looked hungrier for a win than the home team.
Deeping started to push back and made some excellent attacks but to no avail. They felt there were simply no decisions going their way. A fumble in the midfield gave the ball to the dangerous Newmarket centre player and half time saw Deeping two goals down.
Having been in this position before against this team Deeping knew they could recover, but they hadn’t counted on two quick goals from ewmarket after half time, despite great goalkeeping from Laura Gwilliam.
Still, great runs from George Hurford and Karen Goddard put the Newmarket goalie under pressure and finally, through grit and determination, Amy Gwilliam forced the ball into goal.
The last fifteen minutes showed Deeping’s true standard as they dominated play and only narrowly missed several chances.

Wisbech Ladies 3rd XI (2) vs Market Deeping Ladies 2nd XI (1)
From the off, Market Deeping struggled to display the quality of hockey they demonstrated last week. Wisbech were quick and confident, passing the ball swiftly through the Deeping players. The deeping defence had to work really hard.
With some hard hits from Debbie Bowen, the ball was sent back up the pitch, but Wisbech were quickly back heading towards the Deeping D stronger than ever, putting the Deeping defence under a lot of pressure.
After a scramble in the Deeping D, Wisbech scored quickly followed by a rare own goal, finishing the first half 2-0.
After the half time talk, Deeping came back stronger as a team. Deeping passed the ball around and some excellent stick work from Emily Reeson put the Wisbech defence under pressure. Good running from Anya McKenzie gave Nicky Buckby the chance to score a first Deeping goal. Confidence had improved among the Deeping Ladies and they pulled together and worked as a team to keep Wisbech out.

Market Deeping 1st XI (1) vs March 2nd XI (1)
Deeping began a disappointing Saturday for the whole club against a clearly understrength March 2nd XI.
March looked bent on survival and made great use of the “kick-for- touch” style long welly down the ground. Deeping tried to play some good hockey and while their running was sometimes creative and their shape remained good, they seemed incapable of completing short simple passes, and lacked compsure in the D.
After intense pressure Ali Rowledge did snatch the lead for Deeping shortly before half time, but an even more defensively minded March snatched an equaliser early in the second half. Deeping simply continued to play all the hockey - and to look rattled when March broke out via one of their long hits upfield.
March’s keeper will be pleased with his performance and his defence cleared off the line more than once but Deeping looked panicky and disorganised in the March D. Fortunately a piece of individual brilliance by Nick Maxey thwarted March’s most dangerous-looking effort. A late exchange of yellow cards saw both sides finish with ten men as the umpires imposed their personal views on what had been an exceptionally good-tempered game.
