CAMBS LEAGUE DIV TWO
Market Deeping Ladies 2nd XI (1) vs Peterborough Town Ladies 4th XI (6)
In the last Deeping ladies game of the season the seconds started strongly, playing a good attacking game.
Excellent passing in attack gave Anya McKenzie the chance to score within minutes.
Kirsten Hackett (man of the match) displayed some excellent defending skills throughout the match in her first game on the field for Deeping ladies this year. She has been the goalkeeper all season.
Peterborough scored to equalise 1-1 just before half time.
In the second half, Peterborough upped their game and swapped some players.
Amy Gwilliam expertly made her way up the pitch many times, but Peterborough’s defence stood strong and drove Deeping back. Gradually the goals mounted and it ended in a disappointing 6-1 win for Peterborough.
Division 3NW
Bourne 2nd XI (1) vs Market Deeping 1st XI (3)
Deeping were delighted to win an unimportant mid-table local derby but were more concerned about the other mens teams’ league progress.
Division 4NW
Market Deeping 2nd XI (1) vs Peterborough Exiles 1st XI (2)
In the end Deeping were unlucky not to get a point or two closer to safety in their relegation battle against likely promotion candidates Exiles. They absorbed lots of pressure in the first half before Jason Purllant’s short corner gave them the lead against the run of play.
Exiles scored a superb equaliser just before half time but then one of their players was red carded for foul and abusive dissent to the umpire and with only ten men Deeping piled on the pressure and were extremely unlucky not to score.
An almost incredible diving stick stop from a Rob Dunn short corner was the highlight of Exiles’ passionate defence and it drew applause even from the Deeping supporters.
Sadly Exiles scored a short corner from one of their very few chances and Deeping, who have shown they are good enough to stay up on their day, waited until Monday to see what they need to do next week. The good news is that if only two go down it looks like they’ll stay up barring a mathematical miracle in goal difference.

Ely 3rd XI (4) vs Market Deeping 3rd XI (4)
Teenage striker Jack Seton pounced with a couple of minutes to go to keep Deeping’s promotion hopes alive. Thanks to his quick reactions as he picked up the rebound from Simon Taylor’s short corner flick Deeping can win promotion if they win their final Div 6NW game next week.
They made hard work of this game after taking an early lead while dominating the game for the first 15 minutes. Andrew Gregson and Magnus Windsor controlled the left side superbly, and Ben Dalgliesh and Jack Seton found space on the right.
Dalgliesh competently slotted home Deeping’s opener after some lenient umpiring. Somehow Deeping let Ely back in the game and they took their chances while Deeping squandered theirs. It went to 1-2 before Seton cleverly rounded the keeper.
Ely struck back with two goals early in the second half - one hotly disputed - and Deeping were in trouble. In desperation they rolled their players around, showing their strength in depth.
Finally, after some odd decisions, the umpire played a superb advantage as Russ Seton wobbled into the D. Eventually the ball hit a foot and Simon Taylor converted the resultant penalty flick.
Deeping had a sniff of hope and when Alex Gale came on for a brief appearance at centre forward his brilliant reverse stick shot nearly crept into the top corner. Constant pressure finally led to Seton Junior’s equaliser. Deeping must beat Rutland 2nd next week for a place in Div 5NW.
