CAMBS LEAGUE DIV ONE

Market Deeping Ladies 1st XI vs Newmarket Ladies - Friendly

Cancelled

Division 3NW

Cambridge South 1st XI (1) vs Market Deeping 1st XI (5)

Deeping badly needed a win and an improved performance after a poor first half of the season. Although they eventually won this game easily, they started off poorly and conceded a goal after 10 minutes. By then they had already settled into a routine that allowed Cambs. South to control the midfield.
Deeping quickly changed their formation and started to control the game. Cambs. South then lost one of their more influential players after a ball hit him on the jaw, which further allowed Deeping’s grip to strengthen.
They eventually scored through a broken-down short corner and a close range shot from Andy Kind after the keeper had managed a couple of good saves. The growing control of Andy Brassington and Russ Seton in midfield then allowed Deeping to take a half time lead through a Paul Tancred goal.
Deeping started switching their forwards around and the Cambs. South defence looked bewildered as Tancred added another, before Henry Winfield-Chislett dribbled round the back to set up Russ Seton to add a fourth.
Seton then added a fifth from a penalty corner to complete the scoring. The second half control from Deeping was such that keeper Jason Purllant didn't touch the ball after the interval.

Division 4NW

Market Deeping 2nd XI (1) vs City of Peterborough 5th XI (2)

Deeping were playing the team at the bottom of the league. They created a lot of pressure and for the first 20 minutes or so were much the better team. The pressure finally told when Steve Waters touched home a hard Dan Medd hit into the D.
Peterborough equalised against the run of the play from a short corner, a mishit shot which bobbled through the keeper and went in.
In the second half Deeping again applied pressure but too often the final ball went astray or was miscontrolled.
Peterborough scored a second goal and held on for their win.

Rutland 2nd XI (1) vs Market Deeping 3rd XI (6) (played as friendly)

Rutland conceded this game early on Saturday morning, due to lack of players, but a practice match was agreed. Ironically Deeping had struggled to get the bare 11 and the umpire required for a league game and by the time of their arrival Rutland had somehow rustled up 10 players. In the end the teams played an enjoyable friendly with a single umpire.
The result flattered Deeping and didn’t do justice to Rutland’s skilful young team as their senior players concentrated most of their efforts and passing on bringing their youngsters into the match.
High spot for Deeping was a well-taken poacher’s hat trick by Tom Allam, his first ever, but for long periods Deeping failed to string more than one or two passes together, and their ball speed was either too fast or too slow.
Perhaps one or two forced changes and the lowered pressure of a friendly fixture perhaps didn’t suit them.
The other goals came from Kevin Richardson, Kevin Baker and Phil Arnold as Deeping hit four in the second half. Dan Sharpe scored Rutland’s goal.
There was more good news for Deeping (who were automatically awarded a 3-0 league win) when closest rival St Neots lost again, opening up an eight point gap between Deeping in second place and third placed Spalding 3rds.
